Kirstin Demer is a Sculptural Handmade Paper Artist.
She creates sculptural work relating to issues dealing with fragility/strength, order/chaos, inside/outside boundries and presence/absence. Handmade paper is extremely influential in conveying the ideas of her work. She beats and hand pulls all of the handmade paper used in her work.
She holds her BFA in Sculpture from The Pennsylvania State University. She holds her MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts in
Book and Paper from Columbia College Chicago.
She has worked as a Papermaker for the Womens Studio Workshop as well as interning and teaching workshops at the studio. She worked as a Staff Artist for Artrain USA traveling across the country and demonstrating papermaking inside a train car! She has assisted workshops at The Penland School of Crafts in Hand Papermaking and Bookbinding. She has taught numerous workshops on bookbinding and papermaking in schools, museums, and art studios.
She has shown her work both nationally and internationally. Her Artists' Books are collected in various Special Collections Libraries as well as private collections.
She works in her studio (Northeon Studios) in New Jersey.
